Waste Reduction

We are working to reduce waste generation through manufacturing practices that avoid the use and generation of unnecessary resources.
The Koki Holdings Group’s results for fiscal year 2024* are as follows.

  • Final Disposal Rate (Final Disposal Volume / Total Waste Generated)

Zero Waste

  • Since 2000, our domestic facilities have aimed for zero waste (0.2% or less), and we have maintained this status since fiscal year 2016.
In fiscal year 2024, although the denominator decreased significantly due to factors such as the closure of the Sawa Plant, we maintained a final disposal rate of 0.2% through the continued reuse of plastics and sludge containing valuable metals as recoverable resources, as well as the reuse of pallets.
We will continue to strive for further reduction starting in fiscal year 2025 and beyond.

Reduction of Waste Generation

  • Improvement of Waste Generation per Unit

The Koki Holdings Group is working to improve waste generation per unit as a priority initiative toward the realization of a sustainable society.
We view this initiative as more than just a means to reduce environmental impact; it is directly linked to solving global challenges such as preventing the depletion of finite resources through recycling and protecting ecosystems, and we consider it a critical component of our business operations.
Since fiscal year 2023, our Group has been implementing significant structural reforms, such as consolidating and closing facilities and relocating production sites for various products, with the aim of streamlining operations.
Using the current fiscal year as a baseline, we are working toward a target of improving the indicator "Waste Emissions (excluding direct recycling volume) / Total Labor Hours" by 7% (1% annually) by fiscal year 2030.
In fiscal year 2024, in addition to our ongoing efforts, the completion of the consolidation of domestic business sites resulted in a 7% improvement compared to fiscal year 2023. We will continue to work toward maintaining and further reducing these figures.

    • Improvement in Waste Generation per Average Working Hour (Domestic Operations)

At our domestic operations, we had been promoting initiatives focused on improving the “waste generation (excluding direct recycling) per average working hour,” with a target of achieving a 21% improvement by fiscal year 2030 compared to fiscal year 2021. However, in fiscal year 2024, due to the significant impact of consolidating and closing facilities for the purpose of streamlining operations, we achieved a 48% improvement compared to fiscal year 2021.
Based on this result, we will use FY2024 as the new baseline and continue our efforts toward a new target of a 6% improvement (1% annually) by FY2030.

    Promotion of Rechargeable Battery Recycling

    • As a recycling member of the Japan Portable Rechargeable Battery Recycling Center (JBRC), an organization that promotes the recycling of small rechargeable batteries, the Koki Holdings Group has established collection points across Japan, including at Koki power tool centers.
In addition, we distribute and display our original posters at sales outlets nationwide and actively work to collect and recycle used rechargeable batteries.
